Easy Healthy Habits to Avoid Spreading Germs

Today’s discussion is sponsored by Clorox. As usual all opinions are 100% mine.

Thanks for all your kind words and prayers about us dealing with the sickies. They are very much appreciated! We are definitely on the upswing from the cold bug that has been kicking our bum the last couple of weeks. Seriously who gets a cold in the Summer? My kiddos that’s who… boo! Just the thought of flu season makes me shake in fear.

It’s a no-brainer that germs spread like wildfire. More often than not it’s easy to forget that everything we touch has germs, and those germs continue to spread if we don’t keep a handle on them.

Check out the video below for some germ eye popping perspective.

Easy Healthy Habits to Avoid Spreading Germs

Below are a few easy healthy habits we try to enforce in our home to avoid spreading germs:

1} Lots of hand washing with soap. Those alcohol-based hand rub no wash disinfectants are also super convenient to have in the bathroom and I try and keep one in my purse at all times.

2} Encourage everyone to cover their mouths and noses when they cough.

3} If we are sick we stay home. Period. The worst thing would be to pass on our sickness to others, and start an awful sick cycle in another home.

4} Disinfect like a beast, especially surfaces that are frequently touched. For example doorknobs, refrigerator door handles and light switches. I also disinfect the toy bins frequently. They pretty much scream germ central.

Clorox offers a wide variety of disinfecting products. The Clorox wipes are my favorite and are used throughout our home multiple times a day. Clorox kills germs that live on surfaces for up to 48 hours. That’s called winning friends.

What are your tips on healthy habits you practice in your home? How do you avoid spreading germs?

  1. We are all sick right now, and it sucks. One of our biggest tips is to wash the bed linens when you first get sick, and depending on how long you’re sick, maybe once in between and again when you’re better. That way germs aren’t hanging on where you go to rest and get better!

  2. I am addicted to Clorox surface wipes and use them on everything! If they are running low in my house: it’s a big problem lol. My Grandmother always stressed the importance of clean sheets and a CLEAN fresh pillow case change every night while sick!

  3. This is something I am careful with, since I am a nanny for a toddler. Thanks for the tips!

  4. Thanks! Great reminders for staying healthy especially since the kids are ready to go back to the germ infested schools lol.

  5. We are so bad at this! It’s a wonder we aren’t constantly sick. As someone who’s constantly moving, the hardest one for me is staying home when I’m sick.

  6. I am around babies all the time. Always important to remember to work extra hard with kids. Great reminders.

  7. We use clorox everywhere and I just LOVE their wipes – it helps give me peace of mind.

  8. Great tips! Being sick is terrible! When I was a pre school teacher I would wash my hands every 30 minutes lol

  9. These are great tips, for those of us with kids especially! I am already wanting to curl up in the fetal position in the corner thinking about my 4 that are going back to school in a few weeks. Yikes!

  10. I have such a hard time deciding between how much prevention is a good thing and how much keeps immune systems strong! This will be the first full year that I’ve had one of my children in public school so I get the feeling that I’m going to need to up my game. Thanks for the tips!

  11. I agree with all of these tips! But I sear, with kids — it’s basically impossible to avoid germs! 🙁

  12. I am a bit of a clean freak and do worry about germs. My hubby is a doctor so we are both forever washing our hands ha!

  13. I love Clorox wipes. In my house, if it doesn’t smell like bleach, it’s not clean.

  14. I’m severely OCD, so I wash my hands A LOT, and I always have either Clorox or Lysol wipes. Great post! <3

  15. I love that you stay home if you’re sick. There’s nothing that drives me crazier than to see families out and about that are all sick. They should be home resting, not spreading their germs!

  16. This is something we really need to work on in our house! I’m planing on doing a deep clean before winter!

  17. Yes, these are great tips to keep in mind. Especially with Autumn around the corner.

  18. Germs are the last thing I think about. I like to think I am building my immune system.

  19. Love that little photo, something about pudgy baby arms really gets me giddy!!

  20. aww that really sucks. i’ve gotten sick during the summer before.. and think the same thing. hope you guys feel better!

  21. I know right who gets a cold and coughs during summer…ME. so bummed right now but all well such is life. I love teaching my nephew to cover his mouth when he coughs its so cute. Also family friends, I love teaching them too about how to avoid germ etc

  22. We are big on coughing and sneezing in to our arms and not our hands – helps to prevent the spread of germs! Hand sanitizer everywhere too, anything to prevent getting sick! Great post!

  23. I am beyond a germaphob so I love this! I can’t stand when people do not wash hands!

  24. these are all really good tips! being sick (especially in the summer!) is no fun at all! one thing i always try to do when i’m sick is to flood my body with good nutrients! lots of vitamin c!

  25. These are all great tips! I am especially careful about germs because we travel so much and I carry a spray hand sanitizer with me at all times. We also take vitamins and vitamin C. 🙂

  26. These are great tips! My favorite tips include washing my hands constantly (and moisturizing with lotion) as well as sneezing or coughing into my elbow! I also try to take lots of vitamins and if I feel a cold coming I stock up on Vitamin C and take Echinacea!
