Happy Travel Tuesday friends! Sorry this is coming at you a little late.

Can’t believe it’s just been a little over a week since arriving back home from the Viva Wyndham Azteca. You guys Mexico was a dream and so was our accommodations. I shared how we got to stay at the Viva Wyndham Azteca for FREE in this blog post, so if you’re interested head on over there before moving on.

This trip was not sponsored. Nate booked it for us all by his lonesome through the Wyndham Rewards website. I did reach out to them letting them know we were coming, and they provided some perks throughout the week for us in exchange for an honest review. To adhere to FTC guidelines I’m required to disclose those perks, so as I share them I will be letting you know I received them complimentary of Wyndham. I also want to point out if you’ve followed our family travel for any amount of time you’ll know that Wyndham is our go to for many of our travel trips, even before I started blogging and sharing our family travel here. I only share companies and business’ that we personally use ourselves, and Wyndham is on the top of our list!

Now that the legal stuff is out of the way, onward! Today I just wanted to do a little overview of the actual Viva Wyndham Resort we stayed at. I’ll be sharing more in depth posts on what specific dining and activities we did while we were there in the coming weeks, so check back every Tuesday! If you’re planning a family trip and are thinking Mexico for your destination, read on and see why the Viva Wyndham Azteca should be at the top of your list! I did share some of their amazing pictures of their property here via their website, but so excited to share with you pictures we took from our trip.

Traveling to Viva Wyndham Azteca

We stayed 5 nights, arriving on a Tuesday. Nate, the girls and I flew into Cancun from Las Vegas, where we rented a car we had booked before arriving {which is a whole other story that I’ll be sharing, but you can get a sneak peek in the video below!}. We then drove to the Viva Wyndham Azteca which is located in Playa del Carmen. A lady at the rental car company gave us easy, straight forward directions to get to the Viva Wyndham Azteca from where we were. We did bring a GPS device, which made finding the resort incredibly easy. Even though we would’ve been OK without one, the extra assurance of the navigation helped our confidence in driving in a foreign country. Mexico traffic is no joke, so I encourage you to invest in a GPS, because it is worth every penny.

The resort is inside it’s own little community, a resort community if you will. As you drive in you’ll see big colorful letters spelling out “Playacar” welcoming you. We got stopped at a check in before entering the resort community. We let the guard know we were staying at the Viva Wyndham Azteca, and we were on our way. Easy breezy!

Entering the resort community completely confirmed that the 18 hours of travel with two little kids through the night was well worth it. The streets are lined with beautiful trees, and sprinkled among quaint homes are impressive resorts ranging in size and architecture. There was also a shopping center complete with Starbucks not even a 10 minute walk from the Viva Wyndham Azteca, with our kid’s it ended up being more like 20 lol. There are walking trails everywhere hidden inside the brush on either side of the road. We explored and found ruins and wildlife. It was surreal and so beautiful. It was simply beautiful everywhere you turned. Inside there was quite a few construction projects happening {like a brand spanking new shopping mall!}, but the beauty around it well than made up for it.

Check in at the Viva Wyndham Azteca

As we pulled into the resort we were greeted by a friendly lady at a guard station guarding the entrance of the parking lot and the driveway to the main lobby. There was a language barrier at first. She asked our name which we gave. She eventually found us on her clipboard, because she motioned for us to park in the parking lot. The parking lot was tiny but it wasn’t even half full, so plenty of room for us to park. Once we parked, she confirmed our last name again and pointed us in the direction of the lobby.

I had let them know in advance through my Wyndham contact that we requested to check in early due to our flight times, and I was so happy they were able to accommodate this request for us. The staff at the reception desk was so welcoming and inviting. A lady by the name of Vivianna helped check us in. She was super friendly and they answered all our questions we had in regards to our room and stay. No language barriers at all, which was a huge relief to me. They put bracelets on each of us that would remain on until check out, to show we were guests of the property. Since we arrived even earlier than expected she asked if we would like to eat while they finished setting up our room for us, which we were starving so it worked out great.

Dining Options at the Viva Wyndham Azteca

The courtyard was on the other side of the lobby, it’s pictured below. To the left of the fountain was the buffet. This was our first time at an all-inclusive resort. We had gotten mixed reviews from friends and family in regards to all-inclusive dining, but we were so impressed with Viva Wyndham’s selection and quality throughout the week. And the food was GOOD. Just thinking about it is making me hungry. There are snacks and beverages available 24 hours a day. In addition to the buffet there were 6 other restaurants available to us. The Viva Wyndham Azteca all inclusive offer includes a total of 7 restaurants, as guests can dine at restaurants at this resort as well as the sister property Viva Wyndham Maya. Seriously it’s two for the price of one! AND this also applies to all the facilities on both properties! That’s called winning friends! Again I’ll be going into more detail in a future Travel Tuesday post, but just know that we ate like kings and queens for every meal all week.

Viva Wyndham Azteca Accommodations

After eating we checked back in at the reception desk. Our room was ready! They did provide a complimentary room upgrade for us, since I had requested a ground floor room before arriving. A ground floor room is a must if possible when we are traveling with our kids. If you’re a fellow mom you know how important this is. The Viva Wyndham Azteca has 335 exquisitely-decorated rooms, it’s on the smaller scale of nearby resorts, but that’s one of the things we loved about it! More details to follow! They took our luggage + all our backpacks/carry-ons while we ate, so we didn’t have to drag them around with us. The bellhop retrieved our luggage for us and lead us to our Oceanfront Suite.

All the heart eyes you guys, and my pictures don’t even do it justice. The room was spacious and clean. I loved the modern decor with Mexican touches throughout our suite. It slept the four of us comfortably. The couch pulled out into a hideaway bed, which the girls slept on together. Below are the views from our balcony.

We were in room 1011, which was the best of both worlds in our opinion so if you’re able to snag that room or a room on that row do it! We were steps from the beach and steps from the pool! Perfection! That view isn’t too shabby right?

We quickly got in our swimsuits and hit the beach! We received VIP courtesies complimentary of Wyndham, and enjoyed the perks that came with it. One of the perks is the special VIP section that is roped off strictly for VIP guests and members of the Viva Club on the beach.  Viva Wyndham Azteca Oceanfront Suite Review The Foley Fam BlogViva Wyndham Azteca VIP Area The Foley Fam Blog

In the VIP area the lounge chairs are padded and bar service is available via servers. As you can see all Viva Wyndham guests not in the VIP section still have shaded umbrellas if they choose to sit under them, but the lounge chairs aren’t padded and they don’t have servers for their bar service.

Activities and Entertainment at the Viva Wyndham Azteca

Viva Wyndham Azteca Activities Review The Foley Fam BlogViva Wyndham Azteca Theatre Review The Foley Fam Blog

Everyday they post a list of activities and entertainment happening throughout the day, so I encourage you to check that out. They also have things you can use and do at your own leisure, while some you have to make a reservation. A couple examples are kayaking, paddleboarding, a climbing wall, and even a trapeze and imagine so much more! Again I’ll be sharing what we did, but know there’s something for the whole family to enjoy and try at the Viva Wyndham Azteca! There’s also spa and excursion services available, which you guessed it! I’ll be sharing more of in the weeks to come! They also have nightly shows in the Theatre. They have which show is playing posted next to the activities board. Again remember your all inclusive vacation at the Viva Wyndham Azteca, includes all the amenities {including activities and entertainment!} at the Viva Wyndham Maya so use it to your advantage!

Staying at the Viva Wyndham Azteca with kids? No problem!

Viva Wyndham Azteca Kid's Club Review The Foley Fam Blog

The first night we were eating supper at the buffet, and we saw a group of kid’s ranging in ages 4-10 eating all together. They were leaving the buffet while we were still eating and one of the team members stopped and introduced herself and asked if the girl’s were going to Kid’s Club the next day. Of course the girl’s got so excited and started asking a million and one questions, to which the team member answered enthusiastically and with a huge smile. Her name was Rosalie and she was an angel. I couldn’t believe that she took the time to introduce herself and go out of her way to make our girls feel welcome. The next day we tried out the Kid’s Club and they were hooked! They have their own clubhouse complete with pool and playground and of course tons of activities galore! Can you spot the girl’s above? They were on a treasure hunt complete with pirate attire!! The kid’s had an amazing experience with the Kid’s Club, and I can’t say enough positive things about the team members.

Another awesome accommodation for the kid’s was that a part of the main pool had a built in kiddie pool that was shallow and perfect for little swimmers.

The ground’s itself was a magical place full of hidden gems that we explored a little bit every day.

The pictures alone should have you convinced that the Viva Wyndham Azteca is the place for your next family’s vacation! We know we can’t wait to go back, this time with Zeno and hopefully Lola and Gpa and Gma! Trust me when I say an all-inclusive is the way to vacation, especially if you’re bringing your family. Hope to see you next Tuesday for Travel Tuesday! I’ll be sharing more details about our dining experience throughout our stay at the Viva Wyndham Azteca.
