Oh hey there blog friends. Sure have missed this space. I find myself so many times wanting to “just hop on quick” and just pound my keyboard keys, but that thing called life and even sleep has been winning out more often than not these days. So much to document and share, so I’m going to warn you that this post will most definitely be all over the place, just like our life has been lately.
Life lately has consisted of… trips to the ER and surgery for Nate.
First off THANK YOU so much for the comments, messages, texts, voicemails etc. pretty much all the outpouring of love for our family this past week. You guys, it’s been one thing after another.
Last Thursday he was in so much pain. He experienced kidney stones about 6 years ago, and was sure that was what he was experiencing again. He barely made it through the night and was somewhat on the mend on Friday.
I left for California Friday night, only to get a call Saturday morning to say he was in the ER, because he was urinating blood. The doc there all but confirmed it was probably from passing the stone the night before and sent him home with some pain meds and instructions that if more blood was present or if the pain meds weren’t helping to come back to the ER.
Sunday he picked me and the kids up from my mom’s, and we went to the arcade with family and he seemed fine other than being uncomfortable. Sunday night he was on his knees again the pain was so bad. Again we found ourselves in the ER.
A CT Scan confirmed he had a kidney stone approximately 4 millimeters big pushing up against the muscle right inside his ureter. They explained that the “normal size” that they have to blast kidney stones up was at 5, so they prescribed meds that has proven to help in passing kidney stones and sent us home. Seriously you guys my poor husband.
On Tuesday we followed up with his doctor. The options were to wait it out, even though Nate had already been suffering for at least a good week. His doctor suspected Nate’s first initial pain was the stone trying to pass, but it couldn’t. The second option was to blast it, which only gave a 60% chance of all of it passing without removal. And the third was to go in and remove it the following day. After speaking with him and weighing our options it was decided that they would go in and remove it.
Getting ready for surgery mentally was devastating. It was awful deja-vue to six months ago when Nate had to have his appendix removed unexpectedly. I get kidney stone surgery might not seem life or death, but any surgery is scary. The thought of having him having to be put under… and then the thought of him not waking up is terrifying.
Thank God all went well. When they went in they found that his ureter was inflamed and had “engulfed” the kidney stone. Because of the size and location it wasn’t able to pass on it’s own, so the surgery was deemed successful all around. Unfortunately they couldn’t get to the second kidney stone. Yes, they found another lodged up inside his kidney. That one is 1 millimeter so it “should” pass, but it’s causing his lots of discomfort. Hopefully it’ll be able to pass sooner than later!
They are analyzing the stone they removed, and in a few weeks we will know what caused the kidney stone, so we are looking forward to that to prevent future ones. The hospital staff and Nate’s doctor were AMAZING and we couldn’t ask for a more caring and compassionate group of individuals.
Life lately has consisted of… unpacking and more unpacking.
Our house is really starting to feel like a home, even with all the boxes still left to unpack, haha! So sorry I haven’t really updated or shown any of the before and after pics as much as I’d like to! If you follow me on Snapchat (kristinefoley) you’ll have seen a lot of sneak peeks! The floors are all done, and we’ve added some new pieces that is really making it all come together. As we unpack things I’m also purging items and it feels great! ***I’ve since linked the rug we purchased below per some requests. They are affiliate links. If those don’t work click here to see it. Great price point and we love the quality! You can read my full disclosure here.
Life lately has consisted of… another awesome time at Elevate Conference.
My trip this year was the shortest one I’ve ever taken, but man was it good for my soul. I met a lot of new people and made awesome connections + I’m home ready to pursue what sets my soul on fire. More on the conference and the direction this blog is heading to come!
Life lately has consisted of… end of year school parties and graduation!
Doesn’t she just look like a little doll? And how cute is her teacher?! Maggie tested out of Kindergarten yesterday and I’m still in denial. She ended the year with flying colors, awards and so much knowledge. Look out for a blog post recap on her awesome day and my thoughts on her year in Kindergarten.
So that’s a itty bitty slice of what’s been happening in our neck of the woods! Again sorry I’ve been MIA and such a craptastic friend on returning emails and calls. Know that I appreciate you all and will get back to you as soon as possible. Now please share! What’s happening in your life lately?
