If you’ve followed our family for any amount of time, you’ll know that we live in the water year round. The pool, a lake, splash pads, water parks, if it’s got water we are so there! Swim time is a great opportunity to spend time together as a family, and of course have loads of fun!
Preparing for Swim Time
This past Summer we put Maggie and Mia in swim classes at our local aquatic center. Even though they’ve been little fishes and have never been afraid of the water, we thought it was important to learn the basics of how to swim. My husband and I both took swim classes as children, and think they were super helpful!
To our surprise both girl’s were a little timid. As they got more familiar with the instructor and the skills they were learning, they were swimming it up in no time! By the end of the swim sessions they both learned how to swim with no floaties! Below are some tips and tricks to get your family ready for swim time!
- Show them how fun swim time can be! Kid’s are little sponges, and are always soaking up things around them. If they see you’re scared of the water, they could be more hesitant to go in.
- Baby steps! Start out by introducing them to smaller scale water activities. Start with water guns and balloons, them maybe introduce them to a water table or a kiddie pool, then introduce them to a full sized pool. Either way have fun while doing these activities together!
- Get the right gear! Did you know Speedo offers more than just swimsuits? They offer a variety of products including swim suits, apparel and footwear for every member in your family, goggles, and even accessories to make sure swim time is a success! We are big fans of the Speedo USA swim bags and backpacks, Speedo USA snorkel gear & snorkeling equipment, and Speedo USA men’s swimwear.
